On drawing and painting
Knowledge, conditioning, all that we are full of, is set aside, and questions are raised. What is it really? And when these questions are pursued, thinking in tandem with drawing or painting— there comes a realisation, which appears to be the truth. It is not. For the realisation brings forth unforeseen territories which need to be questioned further. And certainly a new truth materialises. It is not that the truth keeps changing. It becomes all-encompassing.
This is my pursuit— cultivating a particular vision to access and illuminate the whole.
Which leaf am I painting? The one I see before my eyes, remember, imagine, or the leaf that fell and disintegrated into the earth? Is the leaf then the earth? And what about the leaf that fell and grew into a new plant. Is the leaf then the plant? There is no leaf, no plant, without the right conditions of life. How do you paint this life? How do you paint light as a life-source, not just as an illumination-source?
As of now, the paintings are a witness to my becoming. I would like to see them become a witness to all of life.
